Preview
LSU got back on track last season, going 10-4, and blowing out Purdue 63-7 in the Citrus Bowl. The Tigers went just 11-12 overall during the previous two seasons, after their 15-0 championship season. Finding their first success since the Burrow and Chase era, the Tigers have high hopes for this season. They open up ranked #5 in the country. They need to win this opening week game to stay in the CFP conversation.
Florida State had a similar season to LSU last year. The main difference was Florida State had gone 26-33 over the past five seasons since their last 10-win finish. Even so, the Seminoles went 39-3 from 2012 to 2014, proving their own history of success. After bouncing back in 2022, they open up ranked #8 this year. QB Jordan Travis was stellar last season. His health and level of play will decide everything for the Noles.
Prediction
This is probably the toughest Week 1 game to predict as it takes place between two teams that were very similar last year, and both ended up ranked in the top-8 for this season. I believe that Florida State will benefit from being at home, but these teams did face each other in Week 1 of last season too, with the Noles winning on the road. LSU could force the split, but I’m still leaning towards Florida State to win it.
