Preview

Middle Tennessee had another solid season, winning a bowl game for the 2nd straight year. They ended at 8-5, after defeating San Diego State in a tightly contested Hawaii Bowl. The Blue Raiders also pulled off a stunning 45-31 upset on the road against #25 Miami. After finishing the season on a 4-game win streak, they should take another step forward this season. The Blue Raiders should win 8 or more games in 2023.

Alabama had what would be considered a successful season by most teams, winning 11 games and blowing out their opposition in the Sugar Bowl. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the result the Crimson Tide wanted, as they missed the CFP for the 2nd time in the last 4 seasons. They’ll be aiming to make it back to the CFP in 2023, before becoming a perennial lock when the playoff field expands to 12 teams in 2024.

Prediction

This is another matchup where the blue blood is very heavily favored, and with reason. Alabama usually dominates their non-conference games, and will be just as competitive this season. They should win this game with ease. That being said, I’m less confident they’ll cover the spread. A new starting QB in Week 1 may be enough to keep the Crimson Tide from covering a massive spread against a good MTSU squad.
