Preview
Missouri improved to 7-1 on the season prior to their bye, and has now had a full week off to prepare for this game. The Tigers entered the season unranked, but found themselves at #12 in the first CFP rankings. If they defeat Georgia this week, they’d likely jump to #6, with a clear path to the SEC title game and CFP. On the other hand, a loss would erase their CFP hopes, shifting their focus back to aiming for a NY6 bowl.
Georgia picked up another key win last week over Florida. Despite winning, they dropped to #2 when the first CFP rankings were released. They lost the nod based on strength of schedule, but will immediately have a chance to change that with their next three games coming against top-20 teams. A win this week would open up a 2-game lead in the SEC East with 3 games left, all but clinching the division for Georgia.
Prediction
This game is the perfect test for these teams. For Georgia, it represents the chance to prove to the CFP committee that they are still the best team in the country, by beating up a ranked opponent. On the other hand, Missouri has a chance to prove how real of a contender they are. Georgia has had some close calls, but I think it’s late enough in the season that they’ll play at 100%, winning this game without much issue.
