Preview
Oklahoma took their first loss of the season to Kansas, dropping to 7-1. The defeat lowered the Sooners CFP chances, but didn’t fully eliminate them. This week’s road trip to Oklahoma State will pose a similarly tough test. If they manage to win, Oklahoma will have a great chance to make the Big-12 title game. QB Dillon Gabriel has been excellent, but the Sooners defense has allowed over 30 ppg in the last 3 games.
Oklahoma State surged into the first CFP rankings, after claiming their 4th straight win. The Cowboys are a tough team to analyze. They defeated now-ranked teams in Kansas and Kansas State at home, but also lost 33-7 to South Alabama, and struggled against some bad teams. Most of their issues were early on in the season, so Oklahoma State may simply just be a better team now. They’ll put that to the test this week.
Prediction
This should be a very excited and well-fought rivalry matchup between these two teams. I’m interested to see how Oklahoma State holds up against elite competition, and how Oklahoma responds to last week’s defeat. I went back and forth on the winner of this game for while, but ultimately settled on the Sooners. They have a more complete roster, but it won’t be easy to win on the road, so I see the Cowboys covering.
