Preview
Oregon State capped off a stellar 2022 season with a dominant victory over Florida in the Las Vegas Bowl. After a decade of tumultuous play, the Beavers are finally improving. They finished the year ranked #17 in the country with a record of 10-3, their first 10-win season since 2006. Unfortunately, Oregon State finds themselves stranded in the Pac-2 for 2024, giving them another big reason to prove themselves in 2023.
San Jose State competed well against USC in Week 0, but ultimately couldn’t stop QB Caleb Williams. Giving up 56 points to the future #1-overall pick may have been expected, and the Spartans can focus on some positives from their own offense. WR Nick Nash had an incredible game, finishing with 6 catches for 89 yards and 3 TDs. San Jose State also had no turnovers, an impressive feat in a unbalanced matchup.
Prediction
Originally, I had Oregon State winning this game by a good margin, and covering the spread easily. While I still have confidence in the Beavers, it was the Spartans performance against USC had that had me reconsidering my final prediction. It will be interesting to see how much of San Jose State’s offensive success was a result of USC’s abysmal defense. I’ll take Oregon State to win it, but only by 10-14 points.
NCAAF Picks:
