Preview
Oregon State continued to look impressive in their win over San Diego State. They started a little slow, but pulled away in the 2nd half and didn’t look back. The Beavers have a capable defense again this season, but the addition of QB DJ Uiagalelei has really taken the team to a new level. With both sides of the ball firing on all cylinders, Oregon State has risen into the top-15, and will be in the fight for the Pac-12 title.
Washington State is one of the Pac-12’s eight ranked teams, and probably the biggest surprise among them. Last season, the Cougars started in a similar way, opening 3-0 with a win against #19 Wisconsin as the best of those wins. They went 4-6 for the rest of the season after that. They’ll be fighting for a better finish this year, and should be able to claim one with a much more developed Cam Ward at QB this season.
Prediction
This is likely to be the weekend’s best matchup. The future of the Pac-12 is these two teams, who were left on the outside looking in after the latest round of conference re-alignment. Both programs are more than just their football teams, but a good finish in football will certainly help their argument of deserving to be in a power conference. I like the Cougars’ chances of winning this one at home in front of a loud crowd.
