Preview
Oregon bounced back from their first defeat of the season with a victory over Washington State last week. They controlled the game from start to finish, once again looking like a contender to win the conference. The Ducks running game continues to be one of the best in the country. Bucky Irving and Jordan James rushed 28 times for 232 yards, averaging over 8 yards per carry. They’ll face a stout Utah defense up next.
Utah took down USC on the road, improving to 6-1 on the year. Utah now sits at #13 in the country, with their sole loss coming to #11 Oregon State. With games against #5 Washington and #8 Oregon to come, the Utes have ample opportunity to make the Pac-12 title game and even the CFP. The first of those two tests is this week, as Utah prepares to host Oregon. They need the defense to bounce back in this game.
Prediction
This should be a very competitive game between two of the Pac-12’s top teams. With one loss each, the loser of this game will essentially be eliminated from CFP contention, while the winner may become the frontrunner to take on Washington in the Pac-12 title game. I’d lean towards taking Oregon here. Their run game can wear down Utah’s defense, and the Utes don’t really have the offensive firepower to keep up.
