  • Rutgers enters this bowl on a 4-game losing streak, after starting out 6-2.
  • Miami climbed to 7-5 in their closer, after defeating Boston College, 45-20.
  • These two teams last met on November 22, 2003, in a game Miami won 34-10.

The college football season has reached the bowl games! Let’s preview the upcoming 2023 Pinstripe Bowl between the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Miami Hurricanes. Both teams are looking to end with a win.

Preview

Rutgers really struggled down the stretch as their schedule toughened, sliding from 6-2 to 6-6. Despite that losing skid, they still claimed the six wins necessary for bowl eligibility. This will be the second bowl appearance in the last nine seasons for the Scarlet Knights, as they aim for their first bowl win since 2014. Their defense is fantastic, but gave up a rare 42 points to Maryland. They will need to bounce back here.

Miami finished just 3-5 in ACC play and 7-5 on the year, after starting out 4-0 and climbing to #17 in the top-25. Despite their lack of results down the stretch, the Hurricanes still claimed a spot in a bowl game and have the opportunity to end a very disappointing season with a positive. Their offense will have a solid test against a capable Rutgers defense, and will need to play as well as they did against Boston College.

Prediction

This is an interesting matchup between two teams that started the season strong, before collapsing down the stretch. It’s a redemption opportunity for both of these teams, and a chance to avoid ending the year with a loss. Rutgers will stay close because of their defense, but I ultimately see Miami getting the victory.
