Syracuse had a rough time against North Carolina last week, struggling on both sides of the ball en route to a 40-7 defeat. They’ve now lost their last two games by a combined score of 71-21, raising concerns for the Orange’s ability to reach bowl eligibility this year. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier this week, as they head on the road to face #4 Florida State. They need a complete turnaround to avoid a bad loss here.

Florida State improved to 5-0 with their win over Virginia Tech last week. They remain ranked in the top-4 with a clear path to the CFP. The Seminoles have two remaining ranked matchups on their schedule, both coming at home. They need avoid falling into a trap game against Syracuse, with #17 Duke coming to town next week. QB Jordan Travis has emerged as a legit Heisman candidate with his consistently strong play.

Prediction

Syracuse did not fare well in their games against Clemson and North Carolina, making it seem unlikely they’ll do much better here. After two bad losses, the Orange are likely to take at least a marginal step forward in this game. While they may avoid another total blowout, I still don’t like their chances of staying in this game for long. I’ll take Florida State to win this game at home and cover the spread in the process.
