Preview
Tennessee State had another subpar season last year, missing the FCS playoffs once again. Since their last and only FCS playoff appearance in 2013, the Tigers have gone just 41-53. They’ll aim to improve this season, despite increased competition, as the Big South and Ohio Valley will merge under one name in 2023. Tennessee State will be in their 3rd season under an NFL Hall-Of-Famer, head coach Eddie George.
Notre Dame was extremely impressive against Navy in Week 0, showing no hesitance as they routed the Midshipmen 42-3. QB Sam Hartman was exactly as advertised, going 19 for 23 for 251 yards, 4 TDs, and 0 turnovers. With Hartman at the helm, the Fighting Irish are a legitimate CFP contender. They have the same stacked roster as usual, but now also have elite QB play. Their Week 5 clash with Ohio State looms.
Prediction
After watching Notre Dame obliterate Navy, it’s hard to imagine them struggling against FCS Tennessee State. That being said, the Tigers will have a far better passing game than Navy, and a head coach with tons of football experience. I doubt that’ll make this game much closer, but it remains possible that Navy is a worse team than Tennessee State. For the Fighting Irish, it should be another easy blowout victory.
