Preview
Tennessee improved to 5-1 with their win over Texas A&M. They’ve now won three straight games. The Volunteers are 5-0 at home, but 0-1 in their sole road game. With games on the road against Alabama, Kentucky, and Missouri on the schedule in the next four weeks, Tennessee needs to find a second gear to avoid falling to 6-4. A win over Alabama will be difficult, but not impossible. They’ll lean on their defense.
Alabama is on a 5-game winning streak of their own. They won their last two games by a combined total of just 9 points, but earned the wins nonetheless. Their defense has been solid, but the offense is at an uncommon level of inconsistency. They’ll face two more tough tests against Tennessee and LSU up next, but will at least be at home for both games. 1 more loss would erase any CFP hopes for the Crimson Tide.
Prediction
It’s tough to evaluate Tennessee’s ability with just one road game so far, but I get the inclination that their AP ranking is not right. They lost pretty comfortably to a now unranked Florida team, and then won five home games against inferior competition. I don’t think it will be a total blowout, with Alabama’s offense likely to struggle somewhat, but I do see the Crimson Tide exposing Tennessee a bit with an easy victory.
