Preview
Texas A&M had another somewhat disappointing season. The preseason hype wasn’t quite as big as last season, but their top recruiting class was once again expected to give them a chance to compete for an SEC title. Instead, they finished 4th in the SEC West with a 4-4 conference record. Even so, their season was not without positives. The defense was better than last year but still needs to improve its consistency.
Oklahoma State was one of the toughest teams to pin down all year. They had good wins against Kansas and Oklahoma, but brutal losses to South Alabama and UCF. The Cowboys will have a chance to end the year on a positive with a win in this bowl, which would earn them 10 wins for the 8th time in the last 14 seasons. They’ll need their inconsistent offense to avoid making mistakes to have a chance in this game.
Prediction
Like many of the bowl games, this matchup could come down to which team sees more top players opt out in favor of the NFL draft. With that unpredictability considered, I would heavily lean towards picking Texas A&M in this game. While they fell short of preseason expectations, they still played relatively well in the tough SEC. Oklahoma State’s bad losses are too rough. I’ll take the Aggies to win and cover the spread.
