Preview

Utah State finished just 6-7 last season, taking a step back after winning 11 games in 2021. They’ve have had a history of inconsistency, bouncing between seasons of 10-11 wins and 3-6 wins on a yearly basis. They’ll be hoping for a better result this year, with an opportunity to make a statement to the Pac-12 if they can lead the Mountain West. The Aggies are expected to start Cooper Legas at QB for this season.

Iowa had a decent showing last year, finishing 8-5 with a bowl victory. While they’ve had enough consistency to win 8 or more games every season since 2015, 2020 excluded, they also have only appeared in one NY6 bowl in that span. The Hawkeyes haven’t been able to lead Big-10 conference. With four more teams joining the mix next year, Iowa needs to prove if they can finish among the best teams.

Prediction

Iowa was a peculiar team last season. They won most of their games with confidence, but also didn’t score many points. With an offense that is mostly the same this season, the Hawkeyes will probably play several more low-scoring bouts. I expect something similar against a hard to pin down Utah State team in Week 1. Iowa should win with confidence, but 23 points is tough to cover if you don’t score all that much.
