Preview
Utah bounced back from their blowout loss against Oregon with a thumping of Arizona State. They didn’t budge in the rankings, remaining at the #18 spot. Utah is out of CFP contention, but still has an outside shot to make the Pac-12 title game. That all rides on this week’s game against Washington. Utah has won the Pac-12 each of the last 2 seasons, and needs to win this game to exit the conference on a threepeat.
Washington remained perfect after beating USC on the road. It was a high-scoring game as expected, with the Huskies offensive attack staying relentless. On the other hand, their defense has been far from perfect. In their six Pac-12 games, Washington has allowed 28.5 ppg. That may be costly against Utah if the Utes tough defense can slow them down on offense. The Huskies have no margin for error in the CFP.
Prediction
After starting the season out scorching hot, Washington has had some close calls over the last few weeks. They avoided a defeat in all of those games, which is not easy to do. That being said, unless the Huskies play more complete football moving forward, they will eventually lose one of these close games. Utah’s defense has the ability to make things dangerous for them, but I ultimately see Washington hanging on.
