Preview
UTSA had a great season in 2022, but failed to win the Cure Bowl. In their final season in the C-USA, the Roadrunners went undefeated in conference play, and 11-3 overall. They move to the AAC this year, and are instantly considered to be one of the teams most likely to win it. If they can get past Tulane, UTSA could win the AAC in their first year. The presence of 5th-year QB Frank Harris will make them dangerous.
Houston also said goodbye to their old conference, finishing 8-5 in their last season in the AAC, and winning the Independence Bowl. They now join the Big-12, with a much more difficult conference slate awaiting. Before that, they draw a UTSA team that is aiming to replace them as a blue blood in the AAC. The Cougars will be seeking a statement win that proves to the Big-12 they have what it takes to compete.
Prediction
This should be a very close and exciting game. When these two teams met last season, the game went to triple overtime, with Houston ultimately pulling off the upset on the road. This season, UTSA will be on the road, but I’m leaning towards taking the upset once again. The Roadrunners will massively benefit from the high-level play of QB Frank Harris, which could even put them in contention for an NY6 Bowl this season.
NCAAF Picks:
