Preview

Washington State finished at 7-6 last season, making their 8th straight bowl game. It was another solid year for the Cougars, after a lot of roster turnover and an inexperienced new QB in Cam Ward. Despite a solid start, they cooled down as the year progressed, ultimately losing badly in the LA Bowl. The Cougars are 1-5 in their last 6 bowl games, and are aiming to get one more win in before the Pac-12 disperses.

Colorado State continued to struggle last season, going 3-9 yet again. Since 2018, the Rams have gone just 14-38 (.269) with the best result being a 4-8 finish. They’ll be aiming to turn that around in head coach Jay Norvell’s 2nd season. They can do so by building on their play towards the end of last year, most notably their 17-0 win over New Mexico. If their defense improves, the Rams could possibly reach 6 wins.

Prediction

When these two teams met last season, Washington State surged to a 38-7 victory. Both teams have some new holes to fill, but also improved in a variety of ways. With this year’s matchup coming at Colorado State, I doubt it will be as large of a blowout as last season. That being said, I still feel pretty comfortable about taking Washington State to win this game. I would project the Cougars to cover the spread as well.
