Preview
Washington State had the week to rest and prepare for this matchup at UCLA. In Week 4, the Cougars took down #15 Oregon State. The final score was 38-35, but Washington State was in control for the entire game, and entered the 4th quarter with a 35-14 lead. After rising to #13 in the AP Poll during their off week, the Cougars can continue to shock the college football world if they manage to win this week.
UCLA also had a week of rest, working to bounce back from their 14-7 loss to Utah in Week 4. The defeat raised some concerns about the Bruins offense, which was especially lackluster in the passing game. Fortunately for UCLA, Washington State has a subpar rushing defense, giving them a chance to establish the run and support the passing game. They need to avoid losing here to stay alive in the Pac-12 title race.
Prediction
In the Pac-12’s final season, the entire conference is loaded with talent. That has led to some fantastic matchups, which continue this week with this game. UCLA was expected to be the better team entering the season, but it’s not as clear now. They’ll have home field advantage, but I worry about Dante Moore keeping up with Cameron Ward. I see Washington State pulling off the upset on the road in this game.
