The Bills had a slow start against the Giants on Sunday, that nearly cost them the game. Their defense showed up and performed well against a Giants team without starting QB Daniel Jones, but the offense once again showed some signs of regression. Despite that, Josh Allen and company did enough to get the win. They’ll aim to put their offensive struggles behind them here, while furthering the Patriots downfall.
New England dropped to 1-5 for the first time since 1995 on Sunday. A myriad of injuries to their defense has taken away Belichick’s bread and butter and the Patriots stability. Meanwhile, the offense is still having trouble rebuilding. WR Kendrick Bourne has been a bright spot, but QB Mac Jones ranks 30th in the NFL in QBR, and the running game has been ineffective. They may start thinking about tanking for Caleb Williams.
Prediction
From 2004 to 2019 the Patriots won 31 of 34 matchups against the Bills. Since then, they’ve won just 1 of 7. Things are unlikely to change this season, with the Patriots at their worst record in nearly 30 years. The Bills have been susceptible to good defenses and aren’t a complete lock to win on the road, but they will likely overwhelm Mac Jones and the Patriots on defense. I’ll take Buffalo to win and cover the spread here.
