The NFL season is past the halfway point. Let’s preview the upcoming Chargers vs Jets matchup. Both of these teams are still very much in the mix in the AFC Wild Card race. They’ll need a win here to keep pace.

The Chargers got a much-needed win against the Bears last week. After falling to 2-4 in Week 7, Los Angeles was in danger of falling out of playoff contention. They still have work to do, but the win over Chicago has them moving in the right direction. They’ll hope to see more of the defensive success they had against the Bears. The offense has also been stagnant, and will face a tough test against the Jets.

The Jets survived a brutal game against the Giants, improving to 4-3 on the season. Their defense played well again, holding the Giants to no positive passing yards. That was a bit expected with their 3rd-string QB Tommy DeVito playing the majority of the game, and they allowed RB Saquon Barkley to total 128 rushing yards. They got the win regardless, and will aim to bounce back offensively against the Chargers.

Prediction

Both these teams are hovering around .500, hoping to break out into the playoff picture. A win in this game would do wonders for them. I’m tempted to consider taking the Jets at home, because of their great defense. Unfortunately, their offense has been subpar lately, and doesn’t match up well against the Chargers. I expect this to be a close game, but Los Angeles should pull away with the win on the road.
