  • Indianapolis came up short against the Jaguars in their opener, losing 31-21.
  • The Texans struggled against Baltimore, losing 25-9 in an unbalanced game.
  • These two teams last met on January 8, in a game that the Texans won 32-31.

The NFL season has officially begun! Let’s preview the upcoming Colts vs Texans AFC South clash. Both of these teams are hoping to bounce back from their Week 1 losses, with rookie QBs remaining at the helm.

Preview

The Colts had a decent showing in their opener. They played relatively well for most of the game, taking a 21-17 lead into the 4th quarter despite not having RB Jonathan Taylor available. Things took a turn for the worse down the stretch, with rookie QB Anthony Richardson getting injured, and the Jaguars scoring two unanswered TDs. Fortunately, The Colts believe the injury to not be serious, and aim to bounce back here.

Houston’s offense was about as subpar as expected against a stout Baltimore defense in Week 1. There were some positives though, with QB C.J. Stroud completing 28 of 44 passes without an interception. He did fumble once, but his debut was overall not too bad. WR Nico Collins also showed his ability, but the Texans running game really struggled. They need Dameon Pierce to be more effective against the Colts.

Prediction

With the home-field advantage, Houston should have a chance at winning this game, despite being early in a rebuild. The Colts are in a similar position without Jonathan Taylor, but had a more impressive result in Week 1. Last year, the Texans tied one matchup, and won the other one by one point. I expect another very close matchup here. Ultimately, I like Anthony Richardson and the Colts to get the win on the road.
