Preview
The Commanders were the beneficiaries of a Week 1 home matchup against the rebuilding Cardinals. Many people expected a dominant victory for Washington, but they actually trailed for a good portion of the game. They managed to score 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to win the game, but it wasn’t a super encouraging performance. Sam Howell finished the day 19 for 31 for 202 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.
Denver was hoping to start this season off on the right note, after a catastrophic result last season. They brought in coach Sean Payton to give the offense a brand new look. Unfortunately, they still had some offensive troubles in their 17-16 loss. Russell Wilson was accurate, completing 27 of 34 passes for 2 TDs and 0 INTs, but only averaged 5.2 yards per pass. He’ll benefit from the return of deep threat Jerry Jeudy.
Prediction
Both of the teams in this matchup were underwhelming in Week 1, making it hard to pick a winner. If anything stood out, it was their respective defenses, which both held the opposition to under 20 points. I expect another very low scoring game in this one. The Broncos will have a bit of an advantage at home, but they haven’t proved they can close out tight games. I’ll take Washington to improve to 2-0 in Denver.
