Preview

The Jaguars took a big step forward last year in QB Trevor Lawrence’s 2nd season. With the Urban Meyer days behind them, Jacksonville and Lawrence will now benefit from being in the same system for two years in a row. Between their continued improvement, and a very weak AFC South division, the Jaguars may be one of the safest preseason bets to make the playoffs. They need to avoid a surprise upset here.

Indianapolis named rookie QB Anthony Richardson as their starter, officially starting a new era. After fielding Jacoby Brissett, Brian Hoyer, Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Nick Foles, and Sam Ehlinger at the QB spot in the 4 seasons since Andrew Luck last took the field, the Colts should finally have their QB of the future. It make take time for Richardson to acclimate to the NFL level, but Indy’s future is bright.

Prediction

With an inexperienced Richardson getting his first NFL start, and RB Jonathan Taylor on the PUP list, it’s hard to imagine the Colts producing much on offense in this game. That being said, they did score 34 points in their last matchup against Jacksonville, so it can’t be totally ruled out. Unless Richardson comes out playing like a superstar in Week 1, the Jaguars should get a pretty easy road victory to start their year.
