  • The Lions are the #3 seeded NFC team.
  • The Rams hold the NFC’s #6 seed.
  • These two teams have only met once before in the post season, in 1952.

The 10-7 Los Angeles Rams take on the 12-5 Detroit Lions in this NFC Wild Card matchup. The Rams are the form team heading into the playoffs, with four wins on the bounce.

Game Preview

The Rams won the Super Bowl in 2021, but the core of that team is no longer on the roster. What they do have is a lot of young talent, and over 20 members of the team will be making their post season debut here. In Cooper Kupp and Matt Stafford the Rams have wily veterans who know what victory on the grandest stage feels like, and in Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams they have young and hungry talent, making their offense one of the most exciting around.

The Detroit Lions had a strong finish to the season, winning three of their final four games to end as NFC North champions for the first time since 1993. QB Jared Goff ranks second in the NFL this season with 7575 passing yards and 30 touchdowns in 17 games. In David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs the Lions have a potent, duel threat running game. Montgomery has amassed 1015 yards and 13 touchdowns this year, with the rookie Gibbs adding 945 yards and 10 scores on the ground. Tight End Sam LaPorta left the Lions’ week 18 game early having picked up an injury but the rookie is expected to be fine to suit up this weekend.

Prediction

The Lions are clear favorites for this one, and Jared Goff usually puts in a strong performance at home. I fancy the Rams however, they have a well balanced team and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them in the NFC Championship game this year.
