Game Preview
The Bengals defeated the Jaguars 34-31 in overtime on Monday night. However, the loss of quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a bigger concern for Jacksonville’s fans. Lawrence left the game with a high ankle sprain and will be a game-time decision for the matchup with the Browns on Sunday. If the 24-year-old is unable to play, C.J. Beathard will take his place under center. In addition, WR Christian Kirk suffered an injury in week 13 and has been placed on the Injured Reserve. He is set to miss the remainder of the season due to surgery on a core muscle. Rookie Parker Washington is expected to fill in for Kirk after a positive showing last time out.
The Browns were in close competition with Los Angeles until the 4th quarter of their week 13 matchup. However, the Rams scored 16 points to Cleveland’s 6 in the final stages, which was enough to seal a 36-19 victory. Quarterback Joe Flacco had a decent performance on his NFL return, completing 23 out of 44 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, WR Amari Cooper suffered a concussion during the game and is unlikely to play on Sunday. If Cooper is unable to play, rookie Cedric Tillman may have an increased role in the game.
Prediction
The Browns are slight favorites for this one, and assuming Trevor Lawrence fails to make the start for Jacksonville I will have to side with the market here. So I’m going for Cleveland to win, unless Lawrence takes the field.
