Game Preview
The Chiefs look like a shadow of the team that has dominated the NFL for the last few seasons, and they fell to another defeat in week 14. This time Kansas City lost 20-17 to the Buffalo Bills, so a trip to the Patriots may be just what they need. Running back Isiah Pacheco has been ruled out for another week with his shoulder injury, and has undergone surgery in the hope of returning to the field in week 16. Clyde-Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon will split reps in the backfield until his return. The one standout performer for Kansas City this season is rookie WR Rashee Rice, the 23-year-old has amassed 59 receptions for 663 yards and 6 touchdowns so far. Without a true WR1 since Tyreek Hill left for the Dolphins, Rice’s importance to this offense cannot be understated.
A vintage performance from Ezekiel Elliott carried New England to victory over the Steelers on Thursday night in week 14. The former Cowboy carried the ball 22 times for 68 yards and caught 7 of 8 targets for 72 yards and a touchdown as he dominated the Pittsburgh defense. The Chiefs will present a stiffer test for the veteran than the Steelers, but his perfomance will be key once again for the Patriots.
Prediction
The Chiefs need a win here to keep Denver at bay, and it is hard to see them failing to achieve it. New England have nothing but pride to play for now, and whilst I believe their defense will test Kansas City their offense won’t be able to outscore their opponents. Chiefs to win.
