  • The Colts defeated the Steelers 13-30 in week 15.
  • The Falcons fell to a disappointing 7-9 loss to the Panthers last time out.
  • These teams last met in September 2019, with the Colts winning 24-27.

The 8-6 Indianapolis Colts take on the 6-8 Atlanta Falcons in this week 16 matchup. The Falcons have around a 10% chance of making the post season, and a loss here could send that to below 3%. The Colts’ chances lie around the 55% mark, but victory could give those hopes a huge boost.

Game Preview

The Colts are monitoring a few injury statuses ahead of their week 16 trip to Atlanta. WR Michael Pittman took a heavy hit during the victory over the Steelers, and was placed in concussion protocol as a result. The 26-year-old 4th year wideout was listed as limited on Wednesday, giving hope that he is progressing through the protocols nicely and could feature at the weekend. RB Jonathan Taylor has logged a full practice already this week, and should be fine to suit up following his recovery from a thumb injury sustained in week 12. Taylor’s return is timely, with his back up Zack Moss not practicing due to a shoulder issue.

Following their embarrassing 7-9 loss to the Panthers in week 15, the Falcons have once again benched QB Desmond Ridder. 30-year-old veteran Taylor Heinicke has been named as the starter for week 16 onwards. Fans will hope that the introduction of Heinicke will lead to more usage for RB Bijan Robinson and WR Drake London, but most of all they will be hoping for Head Coach Arthur Smith’s dismissal before the end of the season.

Prediction

Taylor Heinicke brings more of a downfield threat to the Falcons offense, but the Colts will be using that as a chance to increase their AFC leading interception record. I can see the Colts running away with this one.
