Game Preview
Taylor Heinicke will start as the quarterback for Atlanta in week 17, as Desmond Ridder has been benched for the second time after the week 15 loss against the Panthers. It seems that Ridder’s time with the Falcons may be over, so Heinicke will try to impress and secure a starting role for next season. This is good news for all of Atlanta’s offensive weapons, as they will receive more targets with Heinicke behind center.
Wide receiver Darnell Mooney has been ruled out for Chicago’s week 17 matchup against Atlanta with a concussion. Tight end Cole Kmet is listed as questionable for Sunday, although the 24-year-old’s chances of suiting up improved following a limited practice on Friday. Kmet has emerged as a vital piece of the Bears’ offense all season, and his targets should increase with Mooney absent.
Prediction
Even if the Bears win, their odds of making the playoffs will remain at around 1%. In fact, Atlanta would still be more likely to make it to the playoffs than Chicago, regardless of the result. However, I believe the Bears will win and effectively end both teams’ playoff hopes. Let’s hope they can do us all a favor with a victory in this game.
