The 9-7 Los Angeles Rams take on the 12-4 San Francisco 49ers in this NFC West divisional matchup for week 18. Both teams are already assured of their playoff places and as such we can expect this to be a battle of the back-ups.

Game Preview

The only regular starter expected to suit up for the Rams’ offense this weekend is WR Puka Nacua. The rookie is just 29 yards away from breaking Bill Groman’s record of 1473 yards as a rookie. Expect him to be heavily involved early on and then leave the game once the feat is achieved. Carson Wentz will get his first start of the season at quarterback, and his ability to throw the ball downfield should ensure this is a competitive matchup.

It will be all change for the 49ers too, as they rest players ahead of the post season. QB Sam Darnold will be suiting up for his first start as a 49er and Jordan Mason is set to see the lion’s share of work in the backfield. WRs Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk may start the game, but they are expected to leave the field early.

Prediction

The 49ers are still favorites for this matchup, and as the home team it is easy to see why, but I like the Rams and their backup players excite me a little more than those on the other side. Los Angeles to win here, but it isn’t going to be a pretty game that’s for sure.
