  • The Vikings lost 33-10 to the Packers in week 17.
  • The Lions were beaten 19-20 by the Cowboys last time out.
  • These teams also met in week 16, with the Lions winning 30-24.

The 7-9 Minnesota Vikings take on the 11-5 Detroit Lions in this NFC North divisional matchup. The Vikings require a very complex scenario to unfold in order to secure a playoff berth, whilst the Lions will be hoping for a win and a Cowboys loss in order to secure the #2 seed for the NFC.

Game Preview

Nick Mullens will once again be behind center for the Vikings as they look to keep their slim hopes of a playoff spot alive. Mullens took over from Jaren Hall in the second half last weekend as Minnesota fell to a defeat against Green Bay. Receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison will be key as the Vikings take on Detroit, Mullens is a QB who loves to air it out so the two superstar wideouts will provide a huge threat here.

The Lions will be starting all their big names on Sunday as they look for a victory and a Cowboys loss to secure the NFC’s #2 seed. With Dallas kicking off later than Detroit there will be no opportunity to assess the situation and rest players late in the game, so expect Jared Goff, David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown all to see the game out.

Prediction

The Lions may be assured of their place in the playoffs, but they need the win here to put pressure on the Cowboys. I see them getting the job done in an exciting shootout over the Vikings here.
