  • The Vikings lost 20-17 vs The Buccaneers in week 1.
  • The Eagles snuck past The Patriots 25-20 on Sunday.
  • These teams last met in September 2022 with the Eagles winning 7-24.

The NFL is back with a bang! The Vikings will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Tampa Bay in week 1 but face a tough trip to Philadelphia. The Eagles looked rusty in their narrow win over New England in their season opener but the victory will give them confidence heading into this week 2 matchup.

Game Preview

With Dalvin Cook departing during the offseason, Vikings fans were excited to see what new lead-back Alexander Mattison would bring to the Minnesota offense. With just 11 attempts for 34 yards and 3 receptions for a further 10 yards, it was far from the ideal start for last season’s backup RB, although he did find the endzone on one target. Rookie wideout Jordan Addison had a fine game alongside Justin Jefferson and the duo could prove a formidable partnership as the season progresses. If the Vikings can cut out the costly turnovers then there is no reason why they can’t have another successful season.

The Eagles once again flew into an early lead in week 1, just as they did so often last season, however, they struggled to capitalize on their bright start and in the end were fortunate to hold on and win against a spirited New England Patriots. Kenny Gainwell emerged as the lead-back in a very crowded backfield, with DeAndre Swift looking a shadow of his former self and Rashaad Penny listed as a healthy scratch. Gainwell is nursing a rib injury and with less time to recover before this Thursday night game it is worth monitoring his status.

Prediction

Both of these teams will improve on their week 1 showings and this should be a high-scoring shootout between two good offenses. Defense is where this game will probably be won and I expect Kirk Cousins to feel pressure from the first snap until the last as the Eagles sneak a narrow win over the Vikings.
