Game Preview
The Chargers’ offense looked good on Sunday, but they failed to close out the victory, with the Titans eventually picking up the win in overtime. With RB Austin Ekeler missing the game through injury, the Los Angeles passing game came to the fore in week 2. QB Justin Herbert threw 24/41 for 306 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were snared by Keenan Allen. The veteran WR caught 8/10 targets for 111 yards, ably supported by Mike Williams – 8/13 for 83 yards. Ekeler is still missing from practice due to his knee injury and is unlikely to feature in week 3. Joshua Kelley and Elijah Dotson will split duties in the backfield in Ekeler’s absence.
Even a monster game from Kirk Cousins was not enough for the Vikings to overcome the Eagles on Thursday night. The veteran shot-caller threw 31/44 for 364 yards and four touchdowns but the Minnesota defense could not cope with the Eagles’ offense and that is where the game swung. With Alexander Mattison struggling to step into the role vacated by Dalvin Cook it is no surprise that the Vikings traded for Cam Akers this week.
Prediction
The markets can’t split these teams in this matchup and it’s easy to see why. I have to fall on one side or the other though so I’ll opt for a Vikings win in a high-scoring affair.
