Game Preview

During their 6-20 loss on Sunday, the Detroit defense completely neutralized the ground game of the Falcons. Bijan Robinson’s performance was limited to just 33 yards on 10 carries, putting pressure on QB Desmond Ridder to rely more on throwing the ball, which unfortunately had little impact. It was a bad day at the office for an Atlanta side that had looked efficient and effective through the first two weeks of the season. Even their usually reliable kicker Younghoe Koo missed one of his three field goal attempts. The Falcons’ ground game should find more favorable conditions when they take on the Jaguars this weekend.

The Jaguars were favorites heading into their matchup with the Texans but apparently nobody told Houston that. 17 unanswered points for the Texans in the first half set the tone for the game and, despite Jacksonville looking improved in the second half, the Houston win was a comfortable one in the end. Star WR Calvin Ridley struggled once again, collecting only 3 of 7 targets to go with his 2/8 line the previous week. Trevor Lawrence needs to find a way to get his big weapons involved more if the Jaguars are going to build on last year’s solid season.

Prediction

London is becoming a second home for Jacksonville but their record in the UK is only 4-4. This feels like it will be a tight, and potentially ugly game and that plays into the hands of the Falcons. Despite that, I’m opting for talent to win out and the Jaguars simply have more of that at their disposal.
