Game Preview
With Justin Fields still out due to a thumb injury, Bears rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent has been named the week 8 starter following his solid performance last week. Against the Raiders Bagent threw 21/29 completions for 162 yards and 1 touchdown on his way to a 12-30 victory. Running back Roschon Johnson has cleared concussion protocol and should return to take on the Chargers, although D’Onta Foreman will likely share the snaps after his monster performance last week.
The Chargers performed fairly well against the Chiefs in week 7, despite losing 17-31 in the end. The Bears should prove slightly easier opposition in week 8. Running Back Austin Ekeler will be looking for a bounce back after disappointing with only 45 yards gained on 14 carries. WR Joshua Palmer missed practice with a knee injury on Thursday and the Chargers will hope he shakes it off in time to take the field this week. The 24-year-old snared 5 receptions for 133 yards against the Chiefs and provides a welcome foil to star wideout Keenan Allen.
Prediction
Tyson Bagent had a good first outing against the Raiders last week, but their divisional rivals the Chargers pose a different threat. Los Angeles has a talented offense that should overcome Chicago here.
