Preview
The Packers have officially moved on to a new era, with Aaron Rodgers headed to the Jets. In 2020, Green Bay selected QB Jordan Love in the 1st round for this exact moment. Love has been learning behind Rodgers for a handful of seasons, and now has the perfect opportunity to prove his ability. If Love plays well, the Packers could be a lot better than people expect, with a strong defense and improved offense.
Chicago had the worst record in the NFL last season at 3-14. They tanked in the 2nd half of the year, trading away defensive stars Robert Quinn and Roquan Smith en route to allowing the most points in the league. That being said, the Bears are actually in solid shape. They gained picks from those trades, and even more from trading down from #1. With Justin Fields steadily improving, Chicago is on the right track.
Prediction
I’m surprised the Bears are favored in this game, even being at home. While they are on the right track, they are still early on in the rebuilding process. Green Bay’s defense should prove a decent test for Justin Fields, but Chicago’s defense is the even greater concern. It’s possible they’ll slow Jordan Love down but a two-headed rushing attack of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon may overwhelm them. I’ll take the Packers here.
