- Carolina finished 7-10 last season, missing the playoffs again.
- The Falcons had a very similar result, finishing at 7-10 as well.
- These two teams last met on November 10, in a game the Panthers won 25-15.
The NFL season kicks off next week. Let’s preview the upcoming Panthers vs Falcons NFC South clash. Each of these teams is hoping to take a large step forward with new young QBs at the helm in 2023-24.

Preview
The Panthers traded up into the #1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, selecting QB Bryce Young to be the future face of the franchise. To assist Young, Carolina brought in veteran wide receivers Adam Thielen and DJ Chark, as well as running back Miles Sanders. With some new assets on offense and an already solid defense, the Panthers could fight for the division lead in 2023 if Young can play at a high level as rookie.
Atlanta used their 1st-round pick on explosive running back Bijan Robinson, adding even more talent to an offense that already boasts WR Drake London and TE Kyle Pitts. Like Carolina, the Falcons will be relying on a young signal caller in Desmond Ridder to make the most of their new offensive weapons. Atlanta also has a realistic chance to win the NFC South division in 2023, especially as their defense keeps improving.
Prediction
All four NFC South teams finished within one game of each other last season, and the team that emerged on top is now expected to finish in last place this year. That opens up all sorts of possibilities for these teams. This is probably the least predictable division this season, but this opening week matchup will certainly provide some clarity. I like the Falcons to ride their offensive talent to a win at home in Week 1.
