Preview

The Patriots lost to the Dolphins on Sunday, falling to 0-2 for the first time since 2001. New England won’t be able to ease up in Week 3, with a divisional road matchup against a tough Jets defense. They trailed the Dolphins 17-3 entering the 4th quarter, but made it close down the stretch They’ll aim to carry some of that momentum into Week 3. They need to average more than 3.5 ypc to support Mac Jones on offense.

New York didn’t fare nearly as well in Week 2 as they had in Week 1, losing 30-10 against the Cowboys. Zach Wilson was overwhelmed by the Cowboys defense, throwing 3 interceptions. The offensive line may be the root of all the Jets issues, with capable RBs Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook rushing 8 times for 16 total yards. The Jets will face another tough defense this week, so they need the offensive line to improve here.

Prediction

The Jets went 0-2 against the Patriots last season, and have struggled against them for the entirety of the Bill Belichick era. They were hoping to change that this year, but are no longer in the same hopeful position as the preseason. That being said, this is a matchup between two mediocre offensive and very solid defenses, which could go either way. The Jets could sneak it out at home, but I’ll defer to the history here.
