Preview

The Rams completely regressed last year. After winning the Super Bowl to cap off the 2021-22 season, they went just 5-12 in 2022-23. Los Angeles dealt with several key injuries, the most notable ones coming to DL Aaron Donald, WR Cooper Kupp, and QB Matthew Stafford. While Donald and Stafford are expected to be back, Kupp is still dealing with lingering injury issues, casting a dark cloud over the 2023-24 season.

Seattle was expected to enter a rebuild last year after trading away long-time QB Russell Wilson. Instead, they received a comeback player of the year performance from QB Geno Smith, allowing them to go 9-8 and make the postseason. The Seahawks are still a step away from Super Bowl contenders, but they are already doing much better than expected. It will be intriguing to see if Smith regresses or further improves.

Prediction

With Cooper Kupp unlikely to play in this game, the Rams will have a massive uphill battle. Not only will they be mismatched, but they’ll be playing against a loud road crowd in Seattle. On the other hand, Geno Smith and the Seahawks are trying to prove last year wasn’t a fluke and that they can repeat their success this season. I think this will be a relatively low-scoring game, with Seattle ultimately winning pretty easily.
