Preview
The Texans didn’t have much to show last season, but made some waves during this offseason. After selecting QB C.J. Stroud with the 2nd-overall pick in the 2023 draft, Houston traded right back up, taking DL Will Anderson with pick #3. It will take them some time for their new young players to develop, but the Texans should finally be headed back in the right direction. Stroud gets a tough debut against Baltimore.
Baltimore returned to the playoffs in 2022, but was quickly eliminated by the Bengals. They made some notable moves to improve their offense to a level that can compete with the other top AFC teams. WR Zay Flowers was taken in the 1st round, and WR Odell Beckham Jr was acquired as well. Lamar Jackson should benefit greatly from these new weapons. The Ravens defense is also expected to be top-notch this year.
Prediction
This is another matchup that people in survivor pools will likely be eyeing. Baltimore’s defense was already tough, and got even better after acquiring Roquan Smith last season. It’s tough to imagine a rookie in C.J. Stroud being able to produce against such a tough defense in his first NFL game. I wouldn’t count on an enormous blowout, but the Ravens should be able to win this game comfortably, especially at home.
