Team News
The Carolina Hurricanes look set to be one of the strongest chances in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They enjoyed an excellent regular season campaign, as they finished second overall, boasting a record of 52-21-9. The Hurricanes excelled at home throughout the season, as they went 28-10-3 at PNC Arena.
They also come into this game after winning five of their previous ten games. The Metropolitan Division leaders ended the season on a high, as they recorded back-to-back wins. The most recent of those was a 6-4 road win against the Florida Panthers.

Meanwhile, the New York Islanders will be unfavored to reach the next round of the playoffs. They finished seventh in the overall standings, going 42-31-9 throughout the season. The Islanders come into this opening round game in slightly better form than the Canes over their last ten, as they have gone 5-4-1.
However, their form on the road this season could be a factor that holds them back in this series. They have gone just 17-18-6 away from New York this season. The Islanders have also lost each of their previous three games against the Hurricanes.
Picks
Playoff hockey gets underway at PNC Arena on Monday, and we fully expect the home side to get off to the perfect start when the Islanders come to town. We expect the Canes to land victory to take a 1-0 series lead.
