UANL Tigres got to the Apertura Final after doing better than UNAM Pumas in the semifinal doubleheader. They beat them 1-0 on the road and played 1-1 at home.
They weren’t too impressive in either of those games, but they got the result. Actually, that’s been their style throughout the 2023 Apertura. The explanation for this is that their strongest weapon is their defense.
These guys don’t allow too many goals, with one of their biggest defensive blunders of the Apertura happening in the Quarter-Final against Puebla when they conceded two goals from the opponent’s three shots on goal.
The last time they played against Club America, they kept a clean sheet – the game ended with 0-0 on the scoreboard.
Will we see something different happen on Thursday? Well, the boys from Ciudad Mexico are in top form, scoring five goals in their last away game.
It happened in the first leg of the semifinal with Atletico San Luis. In the rematch, they lost 2-0 at home, but they didn’t care much about that game, as they had a serious advantage from the previous match.

Club America is the best team in Mexico if not in the whole of the continent. These guys are fantastic offensively, meaning that they should be able to score some goals against UANL Tigres. However, it’s more likely that they’re going to do it in the rematch.
