Match Preview

It should be an interesting end to the Group F campaign in the Champions League, as all four sides still remain in with a chance of progression. Newcastle and Milan could both threaten PSG’s position in second by landing maximum points on matchday six, but that may not be enough should the Parisians claim victory in Dortmund.

This will be the second time that these sides have collided in a European fixture, with the previous clash ending in a 0-0 draw on matchday one. Milan dominated that fixture, recording 25 shots overall but failing to find the back of the net. The Italian side will be the first Serie A visitors to St. James’ Park since Inter landed a 4-1 win in 2002.

However, Milan’s away record against English opposition is extremely poor, as they have recorded just a single victory in 21 away matches. Newcastle were beaten in their previous home Champions League fixture, going down 1-0 against Borussia Dortmund. But, they have never lost consecutive home matches in the competition.

Defeat for Milan would see them handed the embarrassment of finishing bottom of the Group F standings. They have only finished rock bottom of a Champions League group on two previous occasions, with the latest of those coming two seasons ago under their current boss.

Newcastle vs AC Milan Prediction

We could make cases for both of these sides on Wednesday. However, it looks more worthwhile to side with the home side. Milan’s away record against English opposition could be the trend worth following this week in the Champions League.
