Game Preview
Jamaica made it to the Gold Cup semifinal after beating Guatemala 1-0 in the previous phase. Before that, Heimir Hallgrimsson’s men went 2-1-0 in the group stage, with big wins over Trinidad & Tobago (4-1) and Saint Kitts & Nevis (5-0), and a tie with the USMNT (1-1).
They even had a really good chance of defeating the tournament hosts, but Leon Bailey missed a penalty, while the Americans scored the equalizer late in the game. Nevertheless, “Reggae Boyz” remain undefeated, which isn’t the case with their opponent in the semifinal of the 2023 Gold Cup.
Mexico defeated Costa Rica 2-0 last weekend, but in the group stage, “El Tri” lost one game – Qatar beat the -303 favorites 1-0. They did win the other two, which came as no surprise as they were heavily favored to win each time. Against Honduras, they were -333 pre-game favorites, so winning 4-0 didn’t surprise anyone. In the game against Haiti, their 2023 Gold Cup odds were -345, and they ended up winning 3-1.

The Mexicans are once again the favorites in the eyes of the bookies, but this time, their Gold Cup odds are that short. Does this mean Jamaica stands a good chance of making it to the final?
Jamaica vs. Mexico Prediction
If you compare Jamaica and Mexico player-for-player, you’ll see that “Reggae Boyz” have a slight advantage. While most of Mexico’s players play in Liga MX (14 of the 23 players from Mexico’s Gold Cup squad), Jamaica has a couple of players employed at big Premier League teams. These guys have the talent, as well as the experience needed to take Jamaica to the final four.
