Match Preview
Mexico will be chasing a record-extending success at the Gold Cup this year, and they have stylishly progressed through to the last eight of the competition. They finished top of Group B after winning two of their three group stage matches. In the process, they scored seven goals and allowed just two.
Mexico comes into their quarterfinal showdown against Costa Rica after suffering a defeat in their previous match. However, it is worth mentioning that they made wholesale changes for their showdown against Qatar in Santa Clara. They will be back to full strength this weekend, and that makes them clear favorites.

Costa Rica finished second in Group C, but that looked like an unlikely scenario heading into the final round of matches. The nation was beaten in their opening match by Panama, before they were held to a draw by El Salvador. However, they produced an excellent display in their final group stage match to deny Martinique a historic passage through to the next round.
The two sides shared ten goals at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, with Costa Rica eventually running out 6-4 winners. Six different players found the net in the win for Costa Rica, with Joel Campbell, Juan Vargas, and Diego Campos all finding the net. However, they will need to be more defensively solid in this fixture, having already allowed six goals in three matches at the Gold Cup.
Mexico vs Costa Rica Prediction
Costa Rica’s leaky defense appears incredibly challenging to overlook in this quarterfinal showdown, as Mexico look more than capable of seizing their chances when they come their way. Therefore, we fully expect Mexico to run out as the commanding winners.
