Match Preview
Mexico comes into the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup as one of the leading contenders to win the tournament. However, they will need to put recent disappointment behind them when they open their Group B campaign. The national side was recently beaten in the semi-finals of the Nations League by the United States, and they will be bidding for just a second win in four matches.
However, they were able to build momentum ahead of the start of the competition in the match for third place in the Nations League, as they edged to a 1-0 success over Panama. Jesus Gallardo netted the winning goal in that match after just four minutes, but the Mexicans will need to play more on the front foot this weekend.

In all likelihood, Honduras will be competing for second spot in Group B, as there is a sense that Mexico should top the standings. However, the Central American side faces a stiff fight to secure a place in the next round, as they will be in direct competition with Qatar, who finished the previous edition of the Gold Cup in joint third.
Honduras has played just three international matches this calendar year, with their only victory coming at the end of March against El Salvador. Since then, they have lost back-to-back matches, which includes a defeat in their previous international fixture against Venezuela on June 16.
Mexico vs Honduras Prediction
Mexico has a dominant record in this fixture, as they have won 27 of the previous 45 encounters. That includes victories in each of the previous three. Mexico are still looking to build confidence, and we can see them gaining maximum points on matchday one in Group B.
