Event Preview

Canada and Mexico both have their sights set on a first CONCACAF Nations League title this year. Both nations have represented at least one final since the tournament’s inception in 2019, with Mexico losing against the USA on two occasions, and Canada losing in the 2023 showpiece.

There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the progression made by Jesse Marsch since taking the Canada job.

The national side enjoyed a memorable run to the last four in the Copa America last summer, and they were cruelly denied third place after a penalty shootout loss against Uruguay. Since then, they have won four of their last five internationals.

An indicator that this could be a tight affair could be shown from the 0-0 draw that was played out between the sides in Arlington last September.

Mexico have suffered defeats in two of the last three Nations League finals, including the most recent edition. The nation endured a miserable run of results in 2024, which included an early exit in the Copa America at the group stage.

Results have failed to pick up since then, winning just four of their last eight internationals. They needed good fortune to overcome Honduras in the quarterfinals, coming back from 2-0 down to win the second leg 4-0.

Canada vs. Mexico Picks

Canada are very much a nation that are improving with every match under Marsch, and they have already shown that they have the quality to compete when the stakes are increased. Therefore, the preference is for Canada to set up a final showdown with either the USA or Panama.
