Match Preview
Spain get their quest for a record-setting fourth European honor underway in Berlin on Saturday when they kick start their Group B campaign against Croatia. Luis de la Fuente will be the man tasked with getting the team over the line in this summer’s tournament, as they bid for a first win at the EUROs since 2008.
The former world champions impressed at the previous edition of the EUROs, but they eventually needed to settle for a third-place finish after being eliminated in the semi-final stage by Italy. Spain’s recent form has been encouraging, winning eight of their last eleven internationals, which included a 5-0 home win in warm-up match against Andorra.

Croatia have made a habit of upsetting the odds at major international tournaments throughout recent history, reaching the final four in each of the last two editions of the World Cup. However, the nation has never reached the semi-final stage at the EUROs, losing in the round of 16 in each of the previous two editions of the competition.
Croatia was solid throughout qualification, as they picked up five wins from eight matches to claim second in their group. Defensively, they were very solid during that campaign, allowing just four goals. Their form this year has remained at a high level, as they have won each of their previous two, scoring seven goals in internationals against Egypt and North Macedonia.

This will be a fascinating clash on the opening day in Group B, with a defeat for either Croatia or Spain likely to be costly. For that reason, we could see the draw being the most likely outcome in Berlin.
