Match Preview

Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge of Chelsea will likely be judged based on the silverware that he brings back to Stamford Bridge. The Blues remain in contention for European success in the Europa Conference League, but they will also be considered a leading chance in the FA Cup. Chelsea got their form back on track in the latest round of Premier League matches after recording a fine 2-1 win over West Ham.

Brighton’s form has been indifferent across the last few months, and their inconsistency could ultimately cost them a place in the European positions. The Seagulls come into the fourth round weekend after suffering a 7-0 hammering at the hands of Nottingham Forest last Saturday. That loss means that they have now suffered two defeats on the bounce without scoring.

Brighton’s record against Chelsea also raises questions this weekend. The Seagulls have lost each of their last four against the Blues across all competitions, and they have recorded just one win in their last eleven home matches against their opponents.

Chelsea have secured progression to the next round in their last two FA Cup ties against Brighton, and they have also advanced from 25 of their last 27 ties at this stage of the competition. The most recent exception to this rule came when the Blues were beaten by Bradford City in 2014-15.

Brighton have enjoyed a fine FA Cup record since gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2017. Since then, Brighton have reached the fifth round of the competition in five of the last six seasons. Their only defeat at this stage was suffered against Tottenham in 2021-22.

Brighton vs. Chelsea Picks

Brighton’s stuttering form will be a major concern ahead of this FA Cup showdown on Saturday. Meanwhile, Chelsea look to hold excellent claims after winning each of their last four against the Seagulls. For that reason, the Blues look to be the outstanding pick.
