Match Preview
Lancashire rivals collide in the FA Cup this weekend, with Burnley narrowly preferred to gain progression through to the next round. However, Preston have already shown their character in the previous two rounds of the competition, most recently beating Wycombe Wanderers in a penalty shootout in the fourth round.
Burnley have one of the best defensive records in England, and they have kept clean sheets in each of their last 12 matches. That defensive structure was key in the previous round of the competition, as the Clarets recorded a 1-0 win at Premier League Southampton.

Preston and Burnley will be colliding for the 144th time in a competitive match on Saturday. Despite that, it is the first time that the clubs will collide in the FA Cup. Tight affairs have been common in the Championship this season, with both matches ending in 0-0 draws.
Preston have been eliminated at this stage of the competition on six occasions since reaching the quarterfinals for the most recent occasion in 1965-66. Burnley also have a negative record at this stage of the competition, losing in six of their last seven fifth round ties.
It is worth noting that both of Burnley’s wins in the FA Cup this season have been recorded on the road. They haven’t won three straight matches on their travels in the competition since January 1963.
Preston vs. Burnley Picks
As the recent matches between the sides would suggest, this is likely to be a very cagey affair at Deepdale. However, Burnley’s excellent defensive record could hold the key, meaning that we could see the Clarets securing their progression through to the next round.
