Match Preview

Chelsea endured a miserable weekend, as they arguably threw away their best chance of a trophy this term after losing 1-0 to a weakened Liverpool at Wembley. The Blues were weak in the final third throughout that final, as a youthful Reds side claimed a memorable success in the EFL Cup.

This will be the first time that Chelsea have come up against Leeds in the FA Cup since the sides met in the 1970 final. The Blues hold a very healthy advantage in the competition against the Whites, as they are unbeaten in their last eight ties against their rivals, winning on five occasions over that period.

Leeds have also flattered to deceive away from home against the Blues after losing each of their last six at Stamford Bridge across all competitions. Chelsea have progressed from 13 of their last 15 ties in the fifth round of the competition, with their only defeats coming against Man City and Man United in 2014 and 2019, respectively.

Meanwhile, Leeds haven’t reached the quarterfinal stage of the FA Cup since the 2002-03 season. They have been eliminated at this stage of the competition on three occasions since that run, which includes a defeat against Fulham in the fifth round last season.

Chelsea vs Leeds Prediction

Chelsea will need to pick themselves up quickly following their defeat on Sunday. However, Leeds aren’t an easy opponent after excelling in the second tier throughout this term. Therefore, it could be worthwhile to take a chance on the away team this week.
