Match Preview

Chelsea have been one of the standout sides in England in the third round of the FA Cup. The Blues suffered a rare defeat at this stage of the competition last term, with their 4-0 loss against Man City seeing them exit the FA Cup in the third round for the first time in 25 years. However, Chelsea haven’t suffered back-to-back defeats in the third round since 1980-81.

The Blues boast a fine record against Preston, having won all three of the previous FA Cup clashes between these sides. The most recent clash in the competition between the sides saw Chelsea progress in the fourth round in 2009-10.

Preston’s record across all competitions against Chelsea is very poor, as they have picked up just a single win from the previous 15 encounters. Over that period, the Blues have picked up nine wins, with five matches ending in draws. Preston’s only victory was a 1-0 home win in 1981.

Chelsea have bossed fixtures against sides from lower divisions in the FA Cup, having progressed from each of their last 18. Meanwhile, Preston have suffered nine defeats from eleven against sides in the English top-flight. Their only win in 18 previous encounters with Premier League sides was achieved with a 4-1 success over Derby County in January 2008.

Chelsea vs Preston Prediction

Chelsea have been a strong side at this stage of the competition throughout modern history, and they look very challenging to overlook this weekend. Therefore, we will be siding with the Blues landing victory to book their spot in the fourth round.
